John Francis Turk, a native of Vallejo, California, has been involved with music since his early years, starting with piano at age five, and influenced greatly by his parents who passed on a deep love of great music from gospel to jumping jazz. This former member of Sly and the Family Stone's early days, has worked with such giants as Lou Rawls, Esther Phillips, Jimmy McCracklin, Johnny Heartsman, Etta James, B.B. King, Taj Mahal, Charlie Musselwhite, and many others.

A gifted musician with a multitude of talents whether playing B3 organ and trumpet simultaneously or directing the music that rocks the house at Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco. It's apparent that this man loves his music! Turk's ability to play various styles — from classic swing, blues to hip-hop and R&B — has led him to tour Europe and the US.

Lee Hildebrand (reviewer for Oakland Tribune, SF Chronicle) says: "Turk may be an R&B player by reputation, but he has proved himself a first-rate organist of the Jimmy Smith persuasion. There are few finer in the Bay Area."
